[title size=”2″]Shepherd of the Hills Fish Hatchery Trails[/title]
White River Corridor Trail is situated conveniently within the Shepherd of the Hills Fish Hatchery property. The fish hatchery is located about 6 miles southwest of Branson, Missouri, on Hatchery Road off of Highway 165, where visitors can park to access any of the walking trails on the hatchery grounds. This trail runs four-tenths of a mile along the scenic shoreline of Lake Taneycomo. It connects with Canebrake Trail (see below). It is the perfect trail for anyone who wants to get a feel for the Ozarks. This dirt path is easily accessible and is wide and leveled. Not only does the White River Corridor Trail provide hikers with captivating views of the beautiful upper Lake Taneycomo, it also allows nature enthusiasts fascinating glimpses at different wildlife native to the Ozarks, including Bald Eagles, wild turkeys, deer, mink, muskrat, herons, and various songbirds. Parking is available at the pavilion parking lot or the parking lot on Belladonna Road. The hatchery is open daily during the months of September through June from 9am to 5pm and Memorial Day through Labor Day from 9am to 6pm.
Canebrake Trail is an unpaved designated walking and hiking trail through the bottomland forest, also located on the hatchery property, a 211-acre area adjacent to Table Rock Lake and Dam. While the trail is relatively short, less than half a mile in length, it offers hikers a somewhat challenging route through the hatchery’s forested areas. The shaded dirt path runs parallel with Taneycomo. Canebrake connects with White River Corridor Trail.
Fisherman’s Trail is located by the boat ramp on Belladonna Road on the hatchery property. Visitors can park in the lot beside the boat ramp to access this trail. Like the other trails in the area, Fisherman’s Trail is a relatively short dirt path, running only four-tenths of a mile, and provides access to prime fishing locations, hence its name. Visitors can fish for the rainbow and brown trout that are raised in the Shepherd of the Hills Fish Hatchery then released into Lake Taneycomo as well as enjoy beautiful scenery and wildlife viewing.
White River Bluffs Trail is located within the Shepherd of the Hills Fish Hatchery property, across the street (Belladonna Road) from the trail parking lot where Canebrake Trail begins and White River Corridor ends. This trail is a 1.6 mile loop, and it offers a more challenging hike on a dirt/gravel path with some gain in elevation. As its name suggests, the White River Bluffs Trail takes hikers around the scenic bluffs that line much of the White River in this region. The path offers pretty vistas of the White River and surrounding area. Restrooms are available within the hatchery facilities, although not on the actual trail.
